Our private eye test is FREE (usual price £25).

Our optometrist will carry out a full thorough eye examination meticulously examining your eye health and vision.

NHS optical vouchers whether given from us or brought from another opticians’ can be used for glasses or contact lenses at our store.

Contact lens fit & aftercare

Contact lens new fit appointments are available at Waltham Eyes.

A contact lens fit covers 3 appointments and is £20.

For students the contact lens fit is £15 

In the contact lens fit:

  • We teach you how to insert and remove the lenses. 
  • We also give you free contact lenses to trial out.
  • We educate you on all the DOs and DON’Ts with contact lens wear and care.

A contact lens aftercare appointment for pre-existing wearers is £20.

 

Children's eye tests

Eye tests and glasses are FREE for children under 16 or 16-18 years of age and in full time education. They are covered by the NHS.

We know an eye test can be daunting for a child. We provide a very friendly and comfortable atmosphere for children.

Your child can be any age to have their eyes tested. Even if they can’t read or speak yet, we have ways to assess their health and vision, tailoring the eye test for them.

Eye tests and glasses are FREE for children under 16 or 16-18 years of age and in full time education, covered by the NHS. 

Signs to look out for are:

  • One eye points in a different direction to the other eye.
  • They are squinting their eyes to look into the distance.
  • They are complaining of headaches.
  • Holding books, tablets and phones extremely close to their face.

PCO form filling/DVLA D4 vision assessment form filling

We charge £20 for form filling. 

The forms we fill are:

  • London Taxi and Private Hire driver licence (PCO) forms.
  • DVLA Medical examination report forms.

Varifocals



Our varifocal lenses are the latest in development and come in different designs. Here at Waltham Eyes we’ll make sure to select the best one tailor made for your lifestyle and demands.

Entry level varifocal lenses are £89 £69 with a FREE frame up to £75.

Mid-range varifocal lenses are £189 £135 with a FREE frame up to £75.

Our Platinum grade varifocal lenses are £229 and come with:

  • a FREE frame up to £75  
  • FREE first level of thinner lenses
  • FREE anti-glare coating

Two pairs of varifocal lenses start from £178 £129 + two FREE frames up to £75.

Anti-reflection coating

Anti-reflection coating also known as MAR coating or anti-glare coating, helps reduce reflections on the surface of the lenses. The coating reduces glare from light sources such as from street lamps and car headlights when driving. It includes an anti-scratch coating as well.

Anti-glare coating is £20 for single vision lenses.

2 for 1 on anti-glare coating is £35 on single vision lenses.

Anti-glare coating is £25 for bifocal and varifocal lenses.

Frames £79 or more get FREE anti- glare coating* on single vision lenses.

Blue light coating

Blue light is a component in artificial and natural sunlight. Long exposure to it can cause visual fatigue and possibly myopia (short-sightedness). Prolonged blue light exposure can also affect your sleep-wake cycle.

The coating will filter out harmful blue light from mobile devices and computer screens.

Blue light prescription lenses are £59.

Blue light prescription lenses are £69 with a FREE frame up to £75.

Up to 30% off designer frames with blue light coating.

Thinner and lighter lenses

When you thin your lenses they will appear more flush to your frame and look cosmetically better. It will also reduce the weight of your glasses. We will let you know if this is needed with respect to your prescription and chosen frame.

First grade of thinning is £65.
£75 with a FREE frame up to £75.

Second grade of thinning is £89.
£95 with a FREE frame up to £75.

Third grade of thinning is £129.
£135 with a FREE frame up to £75.

All levels of thinning include FREE anti-reflection coating.

Up to 30% off designer frames with thinner and lighter lenses.

Reaction lenses

These lenses are clear and tint automatically with UV light exposure from the Sun.

Reaction lenses are £65.

Reaction lenses are £69 with a FREE frame up to £75.

Up to 30% off designer frames with reaction lenses.

Polarized lenses

These are tinted lenses that block out blinding glare. They only allow light oscillating in one direction through, hence eliminating glare completely.

Polarized lenses are £79.

Polarized lenses are £89 with a FREE frame up to £75.

Up to 30% off designer frames with polarized lenses.

Tinted lenses

A sunglass tint is £12.

You can choose what colour tint and how dark or light you want the tint.

Using your own frames

If you want to use your own frame to put prescription lenses in, we can do that for you.

However even though there is very minimal risk, Waltham Eyes will not take any responsibility for any loss or damage of the frame used. It is at the patient’s own risk to use the frame.

To put lenses in a full rim frame is £35

This charge can be reduced to £5 when you go for any optional extras on your lenses (excluding anti-reflection coating and tints).

Free eye test and free prescription glasses with your NHS voucher

You are eligible for a free NHS eye test and an NHS optical voucher to help you towards the cost of your glasses or contact lenses if you:

  • are under 16
  • are 16, 17 or 18 and in full-time education
  • are a prisoner on leave from prison
  • are eligible for an NHS complex lens voucher- the optician can advise you about your entitlement

You’re also entitled if you or your partner , including civil partner receive, or you’re under the age of 20 and the dependant of someone receiving:

  • Income support
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • Pension Credit Guarantee Credit 
  • Universal Credit 
  • Have a valid Tax credit exemption certificate, you qualify if you get Child Tax Credits, Working Tax Credits with a disability element (or both), and have income for tax credit purposes of £15,276 or less.
  • A valid NHS certificate for full help with health costs (HC2)

*Anti-reflection coating. The offer is permanent. The promotion applies in substitute of any second pair glasses deal. The promotion is not applicable if bifocals, varifocals, reactions, polarised lenses or blue light coating is bought for the same pair of glasses.

*Higher prescriptions. When the spherical prescription is higher than 5D or the cylinder prescription is higher than 2D there may be a surcharge to pay for all the lens options. Certain lens options with high prescriptions will not have a surcharge. The surcharge amount can be different and if applicable depends on what lenses are chosen e.g bifocals, varifocals, thinner lenses etc. Speak to a member of our team to find out more.
